Getting Started
A young boy, with one fill and a basic understanding of four-four under his belt, Ernst signs up for the school band. Five years later, he has played every bar and venue with about every band of his hometown, Hoorn. In 2015, with similar audacity, Ernst decides to pursue his true musical passion: production. In his first year as a producer, Ernst mostly records local artists at affordable rates; supporting the local music community, while simultaneously learning the art of the trade.
Recent Travels
Over the last 2 years, Ernst travelled far and wide to work and gain experience. In 2016, he travelled to Los Angeles twice for a collaboration with Silver Gun Records. He spent a month working at studio Eight Days a Week in Pennsylvania to work with former Breaking Benjamin guitarist Aaron Fink and a number of local acts and musicians. During his travels, Ernst got to experience some of the world’s most famous studios such as Capitol Records and Sound City Studios in Los Angeles and Sear Sound Studio in New York City.
Ernst has been a participant in 2 weeklong ‘Mix with the Masters’ seminars at Studio La Fabrique in the south of France. During these seminars Ernst got to learn first hand from Grammy award winning producers like Sylvia Massy (Tool, System of a Down, Johnny Cash) and Joe Chiccarelli (Frank Zappa, Elton John, Jason Mraz).
Style
Ernst specializes in recording acoustic music, but his passion for production and engineering is not restricted to one genre. He continuously explores and experiments with different techniques of recording, always aiming to ameliorate, with unwavering enthusiasm and passion, his desire to produce music that is honest and real.
The Studio
Besides his own private studio where most of the mixing and mastering is being done, Ernst works in a variety of studios in The Netherlands. Choosing his place of work to suit the production.
The Song
Ernst’s approach to producing allows every song to become as good as it can be, rather than framing it within a certain genre or style.
